What line do you think president trump has to cross that gets the 2026 world cup canceled?
I don’t think he’s coming close to the line yet but he’s getting there. There’s so much money involved so that it would take something major to happen.
Tourism is already starting to take a hit. When (if) The groups get drawn, what percentage of fans just say fuck it, no way I’m traveling to the US.
In the states, I could see trump declaring martial law, disbanding congress to some extent and canceling the 2026 midterm election. That would have to involve some sort of military intervention to keep protests in check.
Europe is key with so many countries qualifying. Trump has already started to burn bridges there. If the war in Ukraine spreads into Europe or NATO troops get deployed to Ukraine to keep the war from spreading, then the WC definitely gets canceled. Especially if the US backs out of NATO.
What if a team from a country with a travel ban qualifies?
This would be very unfortunate for Mexico and Canada but we already know trump doesn’t give a fuck about them.
I’m getting a lump in my throat and anxiety just thinking about the possibilities and the unknowns. I’m Gonna take a lunesta and try to sleep.
