Boca Juniors 27/1 bids 2.5 million on Warren Zaire-Emery of PSG
April 17, 2022 at 8:47 pm #4959This is bittersweet. I’m glad you didn’t counter my Esteves bid, but this was one of my other targets pretty high up on my list…
Good pick
April 18, 2022 at 4:26 pm #4991Boca Juniors 27/1 bids 5 million on Warren Zaire-Emery of PSG
April 18, 2022 at 4:28 pm #4993Hahahaha, will serve me right to be too nice to people and warn them I’ll counter.
No problem, next time I won’t say a word !
April 18, 2022 at 4:29 pm #4994BTW, is it not against the rules to counter before you are able to (24 hours)?
Refs, we need your opinion here.April 18, 2022 at 4:36 pm #4995By countering my own bid it made my prior bid inactive in the same step. Also, there is precedent for this in past free agency transactions.
Nothing personal, just business,
April 18, 2022 at 4:37 pm #4996I did it with Soppy and even though Zizou didn’t recommend it, he did say there is no rule against it. A manager should be able to protect their bid and maybe you shouldn’t have shown your hand even though it might be the “gentleman” thing to do.
If people have issues with this then this should be clearly written in in the official league rules.
April 18, 2022 at 4:42 pm #4997Yes I thought it was a sign of respect to tell.
I think I’ve done so with multiple GMs and only you and Chris have thought it would be cool to do that.
If Z is fine with it, then so be it.April 18, 2022 at 4:43 pm #4998By countering my own bid it made my prior bid inactive in the same step.
See, that’s not how it works.
Let’s say I counter this one, it doesn’t make my U21 active bid inactive.April 18, 2022 at 4:51 pm #4999Yes I thought it was a sign of respect to tell.

If Z is fine with it, then so be it.I have also sent DMs to managers trying to get a deal done instead of just countering when my previous bid runs out (Moriba for example). They could’ve done the same thing as me and that’s the risk I have to take.
Again there is no clear rule against it and if this is frowned upon by others then just put it in the rules.

April 18, 2022 at 4:51 pm #5000Like I said, this isn’t personal and for the record I don’t think it’s “cool”, but it’s an option as the rules are stated at least as I read them. That said, of course I don’t enforce the rules. For the record I did reach out to Zizou prior to bidding and immediately after the bid was made. I have nothing to hide with regards to that conversation, but since it involved both of us I’ll just share what I told him after I made the bid and that was simply informing him of the bid as I wanted to be upfront.
With regards to this sort of bidding, I actually think it should be an option. Say you miss out on Messi and you in turn want to up your bid on Ronaldo you can then do so. I also think that communicating you plan a counter bid is in some ways a “gentleman’s move”, however if it also involves the option of you offering a trade to get the player cheaper than your counter bid then I would say that should be considered with regards to the how “gentlemanly” it is overall. That’s not to say I think Evilo had any specific intentions.

Let’s say I counter this one, it doesn’t make my U21 active bid inactive. That’s not for me to decide, but I would think that you can’t bid on WZE until your bid for Mudryk expires or is countered by another eligible team. IMO there is a way for you to do this, but it would mean a 10 million bid for WZE.
April 18, 2022 at 4:54 pm #5003Oh I did have those intentions. My intention was to warn you I would counter and offer money as a compensation (which would see me save a little money as well).
I do think I would like that kind of behaviour when I’m countered so I act with others like I would like to be acted with. But lesson learnt, I won’t even warn anyone of an upcoming counter because this rule is plain ridiculous. You should not be able to change your mind on an amount in the middle of the 24 hours.
My two cents.April 18, 2022 at 4:56 pm #5004By countering my own bid it made my prior bid inactive in the same step.

It IS the rule. You can’t counter a bid when you have one active already.
I would say you bidding on your own bid is a counterbid, thus it is against the rules since you have an active bid.
But again, if Zizou said it’s allright, then it’s allright.
He seems to have told you it was, and apparently he told PP too.
So rules will be rules.April 18, 2022 at 5:02 pm #5005By countering my own bid it made my prior bid inactive in the same step.

So rules will be rules. The rules states:
“– Only one open bid per team is allowed.”
I have only ever had one open bid with Boca Juniors as I do presently.
For the record, Zizou hasn’t said anything to me saying this was allowed or not allowed.
