Considering the news in recent weeks, I’ll see if I can do a week of Canadian artists. Surprised I haven’t posted Arcade Fire yet. So many good albums and tracks. Some Americans in the group, like the singer who seems a dick, but still a Canadian band for me seeing as how they started in Montreal. So many tracks to choose from and this comes from arguably their best album, but a few to choose from there as well.
The one man band that is Chad Vangaalen.
Eastern Canada by way of Toronto, Alvvays.
Tough to choose a Handsome Furs track much less one that isn’t political.
Predictably going from Handsome Furs to Wolf Parade, but the latter’s track is a Krug track and not a Boeckner one.
Went through a period where I listened to a lot of Neil Young. So many tracks to choose from:
I’ll end the Canadian run with The Guess Who. Quite a few good tracks from them and even at least one more band with a member came after them. I’m cheating with three tracks, but two together.
That leaves the last track. Incredible that literally minutes before posting this I saw our incompetent Secretary of State, who some analysts laughably thought would be some sort of voice of reason, tell the Canadian Foreign Minister on their own soil no less what President Dumbass’ stance is on them becoming the 51st state. Anyway, as the story goes they used to open their sets with this track, but only the instrumental. They eventually put lyrics to it and it’s surely their most famous track.
Most Americans don’t understand that “American Woman” is not a complimentary song.
Heard this for the first time at work recently. Wasn’t entirely sure it was a reggae track, but whatever it was it instantly caught my ear. Everyone else thinks I’m crazy, but I really like this track.
Damn, The Killers can make a catchy tune. This is one of their more recent ones. If you listen you can hear that acoustic guitar bit throughout. It sounds just like one of Tom Petty’s big songs (can’t remember which).
Can’t remember how I came across this track. I think it was in a film, but not sure. Either way, I quite like it, and I couldnt’ tell you anything about either artist much less any of their other songs.
