A Saudi Arabian defender’s horrifying injuries have been revealed after a brutal clash in the final minutes of his side’s upset victory over Argentina at the World Cup.
Yasser Al Shahrani was unresponsive after he was kneed in the head by his own goalkeeper in stoppage time, with referee Slavko Vincic’s bizarre call to allow play to continue nearby quickly overshadowed by the rapturous result.
It is the second time in two days FIFA officials have come under fire over their handling of a concussion incident.
Al Shahrani was struck by teammate Mohammed Al-Owais’ knee while chasing a lofted ball inside the box by Argentina in the fifth minute of added time.
