Tough luck for Uruguay. I would have liked to have seen more of Facundo Pellistri in the WC. Good on South Korea though. Hell of a pass by HM Son.
Shame for Cameroon to get such a huge win and still go out. At halftime I had a feeling they would win.
December 3, 2022 at 6:10 am #8858I want to share a text I got from Xavi the morning after Mexico’s loss because it made my day.
Sorry Mikey, I know how much El Tri means to you. Hopefully Mexico can learn from this one. Mediocrity is not the expectation of the fans, nor do they deserve it.
Friends… what’s life without them.
Unfortunately, what it was for Mexico was a shock. A wake-up call, for sure. But it shouldn’t have been surprising. I’d have fired Tata Martino after he lost the first of two finals to the US in one month last year. But the FMF, for once, showed restraint in not giving in to criticism. So, the poor results continued. A poor qualifying campaign. And a poor World Cup. Sadly, I feel that Mexico was largely held back by its coaching and player selection. Tata did not call Santi Giménez or Chicharito Hernandez, declaring that Raúl was good to go, only to bring him on as a substitute in every match. Tata did not call Erick Sánchez or Diego Lainez, two players I felt should have been. And worse, Tata’s tactical approach in both the Poland match and especially the Argentina match were far too conservative. Ultimately, Mexico didn’t capitalize on their chances and by the third match, it was too little too late, bravely as they fought in the last match. There are a million IFs now. But I hope that the FMF learns from its mistakes because we cannot repeat this result in four years.
I’m proud of the players. I always am. My eyes well up for every big match anthem as I imagine myself and my spirit with the players on the field. And as I saw tears in some of their eyes throughout the game’s anthems, I felt that heart to heart connection. Luis Chávez’s goal will soar in my heart for years. I screamed so hard and so loud, my dog was jumping with me. Moments like that that I cherish and remember fondly as the years pass.
December 3, 2022 at 6:11 am #8860WHO YOU GOT?
December 3, 2022 at 6:22 am #8861I’m gonna go for a dark horse – JAPAN. Of all the teams, I think they’ve shown they want it the most.
December 3, 2022 at 8:38 pm #8867Brazil.
The starting 11 is the most complete and balanced team and they’ve got quality depth in most positions. They’ll beat Argentina in the semis.
France and Spain will the other semi. I really don’t know who goes through, will need to see how they play against stronger opposition.
December 5, 2022 at 2:40 am #8878December 5, 2022 at 4:19 am #8881December 5, 2022 at 8:42 pm #8887So Brazil are cruising in their match and instead of resting one of their outfield players for the quarters, they sub in their third keeper? That’s just arrogant. So what if he’ll never be at another WC?

December 6, 2022 at 8:53 pm #8897I like portugal to win it all
December 6, 2022 at 11:35 pm #8898Thank you now they’ll lose to Morocco.
December 7, 2022 at 8:15 pm #8915I put money down on Argentina before the start of the tournament. Did I mention that? JR and Xavi know but it was… quite a bit, lol. Seemingly greatly exponentially more in my head after that Saudi match. I’ve lost more in Vegas tbh. But still prob more than I should have. But if they win, I’ll be a genius and drinks are on me, boys.
WHO YOU GOT?
December 7, 2022 at 9:18 pm #8918If France beats England I can’t see any team stopping them.
They match up badly against England but match up well against any other team left IMO.
And they spank Brazil everytime in the WC.December 8, 2022 at 4:31 am #8927(WARNING! GRAPHIC!) Riots in the streets of Switzerland after a devastating loss in the world cup.

I like the winner of France and England too. It wouldnt be close if Benzema were healthy or the tournament had been last summer
